Reasons to believe in the Browns keep piling up
The Browns are now in complete control of their own destiny. After Sundays win over the Texans, coupled with Tennessee’s loss to the Bengals, they stand alone in the final AFC wildcard playoff spot. Don’t get me wrong, there is plenty more to be done and I would love all the help in the world from the other teams contending for playoff spots. Yet, the fact is that if the playoffs started today the Browns would be in and that won’t change as long they keep winning.
The Texans game proved, somewhat surprisingly, to be a pleasant glimpse of the Browns’ potential on defense. It also boasted a healthy, determined Jamal Lewis running all over the Texans. These are crucial elements in making a playoff push toward the end of a long season. Combined with the already strong passing game, and special teams play, the recent improvements in the running game and on defense are incredibly encouraging.
The upcoming game in Arizona will be another tough test, as is any game when a team is attempting to stake its claim for a spot in the playoffs. That said, the Browns growth has not ceased to amaze me thus far. In return, I am beginning to learn how to maintain all the confidence in the world that the Browns will be able to win any game in which they play, and I see no reason to change that outlook this week.
