cavs display multiple identities
LeBron James was temporarily (hopefully this is not really the case) entertained with the luxury of having another high-end scoring threat on the Cavs. Larry Hughes put up 40 points causing myself and others, I’m sure, to reminisce about his days as an All-Star guard with the Wizards. All the while becoming consumed with what was supposed to happen when Hughes became a Cleveland Cavalier.
Needless to say, last night’s victory over the Magic was yet another victory over a top tier team in the East. But the fact that the Cavs were manhandled by a middle of the road team in the West (Denver) on the previous night is a little troublesome. Yet, watching someone other than LeBron James put up 40 points was reasonable enough to elicit short-term memory loss.
The past two games for the Cavs have been somewhat of a paradigm for what the team is and what they aspire – or at least should aspire – to be. On one hand, they are solid enough to win the East again. On the other hand, they are still in dire need of another steady scorer to help lighten the load for LeBron in order to be able to compete on a higher level with the West. The Cavs are again in position for a potential title run, yet there is still something missing. Everyone from myself to LeBron James understands this is the case. It is merely a matter of when it will resolved.
