Browns victorious in another wild game
There comes a point, actually many points for most, in a person’s life when all reason and sanity is tossed aside for a larger, more meaningful cause that cannot be denied. I was confronted full force with such a point this past Sunday. I was one of many who endured the blizzard-like weather conditions to watch a game in which the most exciting plays involved a punter falling on his face, a punter kicking the ball out of the back of the end zone for a safety, and Phil Dawson once again using the crossbar to his advantage (which was actually an incredible kick). The craziest part about the whole day is how much fun myself, and every other Browns fan had despite of, and partially due to, the extreme weather conditions.
Winning a game in the elements, like the one against the Bills, in which Jamal Lewis ran for 163 yards, and the defense produced a shutout, is an eminent display of the hard-nosed football that corresponds with late season and playoff victories. Such a game, and such a season to this point, only builds the mystique of this Browns team, in turn increasing the excitement of Browns fans worldwide.
There is still plenty to be done in order to get into the playoffs and make a run in the AFC. The reality is that the fact that such discussions are possible is a feat in itself. There is no better way to build on the excitement of the year than to beat an in state, division rival this weekend to secure a playoff spot. The Browns defense and running game are the best they have been thus far this season. And this is obviously the best time to be improving as a team. The Bengals and the Forty Niners should prove to be the type of opponents needed to build confidence and momentum heading into the playoffs. Only time will tell on such matters. All I know is that I was there for a grueling, character building victory over the weekend that gave me more confidence in this team. So as the ever growing buzz of the team swells and surges throughout the league, and as the team itself grows and makes exemplary strides leaving behind the once overwhelming mediocrity, I will continue to do my part in supporting the team who has provided a multitude of reasons a budding sense of optimism.
