Published March 11, 2010 Kennedy's Weekly College Basketball and NBA picks
My picks run from Monday to Sunday per each week. I keep my picks from the last two weeks on here so you can see what I picked and why. Sometimes I will tell you what went wrong on a loss or brag a little on a win. Remember these are for entertainment purposes only. Please leave your comments below with your thoughts on my picks. If any of you would like to have a friendly competition let me know. Ties count as a half point on my winning percentage. If there is a certain game or games you would like me to look at please let me know and I will do my best to put it on here. Just try to give me an enough time to look at it. This is my first time trying basketball so it should be fun to see how I do. Pretty good week 1 on Pro games with 10 wins and just one loss with a tie. Stats are updated through (3/7/10) 2009 Win/Loss and win College Total: 235-206-10 .532 Pro Total: 123-105-8 .538 Total:-358-311-18 .534 Last Week: (College 23-12-1.652) (Pro 12-8-2 .590) March 11, 2010 College 7:00 Oklahoma State vs Kansas State: Big 12 Network (KSU -4.5) 7:30 Auburn vs Florida: Sec TV (Flor -5.5) 9:30 Texas vs Baylor: ESPN2 (Bay PK) Pro 7:00 Atlanta at Washington (Was +7) 8:00 Chicago at Orlando (Orl -12) Portland at Golden State (GS +5)
March 7, 2010 (7-4-1) College (5-2) (W) 12:00 Florida at Kentucky: TV (CBS) (Flor +12) (W) 2:00 Wisconsin at Illinois: TV (ESPN) (Wis -2) (W) 4:00 Michigan at Michigan State: TV (CBS) (MSU -10) (L) 2:00 Boston College at NC State (BC +2) (L) 6:00 Iowa at Minnesota (Iowa +14) (W) 6:00 Clemson at Wake Forest (Wake -1) (W) 8:30 Loyola Marymount at Gonzaga: TV (ESPN2) (Gon -12) Pro (2-2-1) (L) 12:00 Philidelphia at Toronto (Tor -5.5) (T) 2:30 La Lakers at Orlando: TV (ABC) (Orl -2) (W) 8:00 Washington at Boston: TV (ESPN) (Was +13) (W) 9:00 Oklahoma at Sacramento (Okl -3.5) (L) 10:30 Portland at Denver: TV (ESPN) (Port +7) March 6 2010 (10-5-1) College (8-4) (L) 12:00 Florida State at Miami (Flor): TV (ESPN) I really like FSU today on the road. They are playing well and should take care of business today trying to end the regular season and prepare for the dance. Lay the points against Miami. (FSU -1.5) (W) 12:00 Texas A & M at Oklahoma: TV (ESPN) A & M will come out today and play hard. They will be trying to improve their Madness Stock and a much weaker and troublesome Oklahoma team will try to stop them. No chance. Oklahoma is off this year and do not have anything to play for. Oklahoma has lost 7 in a row in conference play and today will make it 8. Feel safe in giving the points today. (A & M -3) (W) 12:00 West Virginia at Villanova: TV (ESPN) I think this one will be close, really close. I give WV the slight advantage today. It seems that Villanova has shown a little fatigue towards the end of the regular season. They have seemed to have trouble in some of the big games as of late. This game today fits in the” Big game" category. Take the points and WV could win this one outright. (WV +3) (W) 12:00 Cincinnati at Georgetown: TV (ESPN360) Both of these teams have surprised me this year at different times during this season. But today I would be very surprised if Georgetown does not take care of business on their home court today. Cin gave WV some trouble the other day but then just gave them the W late in the game. I could see George leading this through out and pulling away to cover. (Georg -6.5) (L) 12:00 Northwestern at Indiana: TV (Big 10 Network) Northwestern and Indiana are in much different positions right now. The rolls are reversed this season. Northwestern has improved this season and looks to get their 20th win which may help them into the big dance. 20 wins will help them a lot. Not two long ago they may have not got 20 wins combined in two seasons. This is basically and elimination game for them. With a win in Indiana and one or two in the Big 10 Tourney, the Wildcats could be dancing for the first time in their schools history. If that is not motivation, I don't know what is. Indiana on the other hand is trying to win their 10th game and really can't wait to get this season over with. It won't take a much to figure this one out. Lay the points. (NW -4.5) (W) 1:30 Maryland at Virginia: TV (ESPN360) Maryland is coming off a big win against a potential #1 big dance seed vs. Duke on Wednesday. Look for them to continue a nice run today against a less talented Virginia team. Look for Maryland to take control early and roll today on the road. (Mary -4.5) (W) 2:00 Kansas at Missouri: TV (CBS) Kansas should take care of business today on the road. Lay the points. (Kan -3) (L) 2:00 Syracuse at Louisville: TV (ESPN) This game has upset written all over it. Louisville went on the road and beat Cuse earlier giving them one of only two loses they have had all year. I am going to go against the grain here today. I just don't see them doing it again. They beat them on Valentines Day and Cuse will not be bringing and love this time. Look for Cuse to solidify a great season. Freedom will not ring in Freedom Hall for the Cardinal’s today. (Cuse +1.5) (W) 2:00 Notre Dame at Marquette: TV (ESPN360) This one is a tough one for me. I have showed love and respect to Marq all season. They have been a team that has been off the radar this year but playing well. Notre Dame season seemed to be heading down hill fast like Bode Miller in Vancouver, with the injury to Harangody. However the Irish have been surprising some big teams lately. Just ask teams like Georgetown, Pittsburgh and Uconn if it has affected them. Although Marq may still win this one, the line is just a bit too high for the Irish not to cover. (Irish +8) (W) 2:30 Purdue at Penn State: TV (Big 10 Network) Penn State almost had a big upset against MSU earlier this. Purdue will miss Hummel again today. Penn State should keep it closer than this line today at home. (State +6) (L) 7:00 Seton Hall at Providence After coming so close to a huge upset at Pittsburgh Thursday night. Look for Providence to come home today and show some confidence on their home court. They will be glad to be home and have a good shot to rebound against Seton Hall. (Prov +1.5) (W) 9:00 UNC at Duke: TV (ESPN) 99 times out of 100 this game would mean so much for both of these teams. It is the last week of the regular season. Both teams would be fighting for a #1 seed the madness. It would be great. Well, unfortunately this is that one game out of one hundred. This one might be over before the even tip the ball. NC has struggled all year. Duke is still fighting for a #1 seed in the dance and has everything to play for. They won't take it easy on NC just because they are having an off-season. Did I mention the game is in Cameron Indoor Stadium? Duke big tonight. (Duke -14.5)
Pro (2-1-1) (T) 7:00 Golden State at Charlotte Golden State has been the Rodney Dangerfield of the NBA all season. They get " No Respect, No Respect". This line is just too big. Take all the points, lol. (GS +11) (W) 7:30 Atlanta at Miami These two teams are evenly matched. It could go either way. So I will take the home team today. The Heat is on today in Miami. (Miami -1.5) (W) 8:00 Dallas at Chicago Two big things play into this game tonight in favor of the Mavericks. Chicago is having some health issues as of late and is the main reason they have dropped three straight. Dallas has been playing well against the eastern Conference teams and is just a better team right now. I would be shocked if the can't cover this line as a road dog today. (Dall -1.5) (L) 8:30 Cleveland at Milwaukee: TV (FSN) Cleveland will look to go out on the road today and keep their lead for the #1 Seed in the Eastern Conference over the Magic. The Bucks have had trouble against the Cavs and other quality teams they have played recently. The Cavs seem to have an on/off button. They trailed by double digits against Detroit and came back to win. They did the same thing against Boston. I don't think they will have to come back tonight so they should get an easy win. Take the points. (Cavs -3) March 5, 2010 (3-4) College (2-2) (W) 12:00 Fordham at Duquesne (Ford +20) (L) 8:00 Kent at Akron: TV (ESPN2) (Akr -3) (W) 8:30 St John's at Depaul: TV (Big10 Network) (John -3) (L) 10:30 Cal Riverside at Long Beach State (Long -8) Pro (1-2) (L) 7:00 La Lakers at Charlotte (La -3) (L) 7:00 Detriot at Cleveland: TV (ESPN) (Clev -12) 1(W) 0:30 Oklahona City at La Clippers (Okl -5) March 4, 2010 (4-2-1) College (2-1-1) (W) 7:00 Seton Hall and Rutgers: TV (ESPN2) (SH -3.5) (W) 7:00 Dayton at Richmond: TV (CBS College Sports) (Day +4.5) (L) 9:00 Providence at Pittsburgh: TV (ESPN2) (Pitt -11) (T) 10:30 UCLA at Arizona: TV (FSN Reginal) (UCLA +5) Pro (2-1) (W) 8:00 Memphis at Chicago (Mem +5.5) (L) 8:00 La Lakers at Miami (La -4) (W) 10:30 Utah at Phoenix (Utah +2) March 2, 2010 (7-2) College (5-2) (W) 7:00 St John's at Syracuse: TV (Big East Network) (Cuse -13.5) (W) 7:00 Villinova at Cincinnati: TV (ESPN2) (Villi -3) (W) 7:00 Vanderbelt at Florida: TV (ESPN) (Vandy +3) (W) 8:00 Miami Florida at UNC: TV (Raycom) (UNC -4) (L) 8:00 Georgia Tech at Clemson TV (Raycom) (GT +7) (W) 9:00 Ohio State at Illinois: TV (ESPN) (OSU -9) (L) 9:30 Louisville at Marquette: TV (ESPN2) (Louis +3.5) Pro (2-0) (W) 7:30 Boston at Detroit (Bost -4) (W) 7:30 Golden State at Miami (GS +11)

February 28, 2010 (8-3-1) College (6-2) (W) 12:00 Northwestern at Penn State: TV: Big Ten (Penn -2) (W) 12:00 Marquette at Seton Hall: TV Big East (Marq +2.5) (L) 1:00 Richmond at Xavier: TV ESPN2 (X -6.5) (W) 2:00 Louisville at Uconn: TV CBS (Louis +4.5) (W) 4:00 Michigan State at Purdue: TV CBS (MSU +4) (W) 5:30 Clemson at Florida State: TV FSN Reginal (Clem +4) (L) 6:05 Indiana at Iowa: TV Big 10 (Indiana +6.5) (W) 7:45 Duke at Virginia: TV FSN Reginal (Duke -9.5) Pro (2-1-1) (W) 1:00 Phoenix at San Antionio: TV ABC (San +4) (T) 3:30 Denver at La Lakers: TV ABC (Den +6) (W) 6:00 Washington at New Jersey (Wash -1) (L) 7:00 Miami at Orlando: TV ESPN (Miami +12.5) February 27, 2010 (6-10) College (5-8) (L) 12:00 Notre Dame at Georgetown: TV (CBS Reginal) Notre Dame looked great against Pitt earlier this week. Can they do it again? This game is a little different. First of all it is on the road and it is Georgetown. Georgetown has better talent and ND can't do it again. This line is a little scary but I think ND will get worn down and pull away late. Lay the points. (Geor -11) (W) 12:00 Pittsburgh at St John's: TV (Big East Network) Pitt looked horrible in South Bend on Wednesday night. They want noting more than to come out and blowout someone. Sorry Johnnies but it is a case of being the wrong place at the wrong time. This line is a little off. Lay the points as this might get ugly. (Pitt -2) (L) 12:00 Michigan at Ohio State: TV (ESPN) Ohio State can't afford to let down. They need to win to stay in the race for a Big Ten Championship. Plus the fact that they lost at Michigan earlier will help them keep on fighting. Look for OSU to cover today and keep their dream alive. Purdue losing Hummel ahas opened the door. OSU won't shut it against a much less talented Mich team. Lay the points. (OSU -12) (W) 12:00 Boston College at Georgia Tech BC has been playing well as of late. They put up a 20 spot against Virgina Tech on Wednesday. Even though GT is a good team with some good wins this year I think BC can hang with them on the road today and keep it tighter than this line. Take the points. (BC +8) (L) 12:00 Kentucky at Tennessee: TV (CBS Reginal) Kentucky should have a walk in the park today against a Tenn team that has less talent. Kentucky might win this by double digits. (Ken -2) (W) 1:30 Vanderbilt at Arkansas: TV (SEC TV) Take Vandy today on the road. These two team are heading in different directions. Ark may be looking ahead to next year. Vandy should win this one. (Vandy +1) (L) 2:00 Cincinatti at West Virginia: TV (Big East Network) Cin is just way overmatched today on the road. WV is just a better team and they are at home today. Double trouble for the Bearcats equals a double digit victory for Huggin's old team. He won't let up in this one and WV will win big. (WV -12) (L) 2:00 UNC at Wake Forest: TV (CBS) North Carolina has just fallen apart this year. Wake is going up and should win this one without much trouble. It has taking me this long to stop drinking the UNC juice. But they are just bad. The fact that UNC has nothing to play for today does not help their case. Lay the points. (Wake -7) (L) 4:00 Minnesota at Illinois This game should be a good one. So home court might be the factor at the end of this one. Lay the points. (Ill -2.5) (W) 4:00 Maryland at Virginia Tech: TV (Raycom) This game is basically a pick'em game. I give the slight edge to the road dog today. Maryland is a good team and will play hard today on the road. It will be close. (Mary +1) (L) 4:00 Kansas at Oklahoma St: TV (CBS) Evan though Kan is on the road they are a much better team than OSU. Lay the points. (Kan -5.5) (L) 8:00 San Francisco at Gonzaga Can you say Mismatch. (Gon -17.5) (W) 9:00 Villinova at Syracuse: TV (ESPN) I like the Orange today at home. Cuse can clinch a Big East Championship with a sold out crowd. It will be crazy tonight in the Carrier Dome. Take Cuse with the 6th man fans. (Cuse -6) Pro (1-2) (L) 7:00 New Jersey at Boston Boston has had a day off to rest and fix whatever happened against Clev on Thursday night. Look for them to take it out on Jersey tonight. (Bos -11.5) (L) 7:00 Chicago at Indiana (Chi pk) (W) 10:30 Detriot at Golden State I like Golden State to cover tonight at home. (GS -4) February 24, 2010 (6-8) College (3-7) (W) 6:30 Ohio State at Penn State: TV (Big 10 Network) Osu should cover this line tonight on the road. They are playing well and are still fighting for the Big 10 championship. Penn State is way over-matched and will struggle to score against a good defense. Osu should win by double digits tonight. (OSU -7) (L) 7:00 Pittsburgh at Notre Dame: TV (ESPN2) I would have took Pitt tonight regarless of the hurt knee of Harongody. Pitt is a better team and should win this pick'em game with or without a heathly Harongody. (Pitt Pk) (L) 7:00 Virgina Tech at Boston College Two teams going in opposite directions. VT is playing very well and BC has not done so well lately. VT should win this game so I will take the point and run. (VT +1) (L) 7:00 Florida State at UNC: TV (ESPN) Should be a good game but UNC will have the home court fans in their corner tonight. UNC wins a close game. (UNC +2.5) (L) 7:00 Depaul at Cincinnati: TV (FSN Ohio) This game could get ugly. Cin is fighting for an tourny bid. Depaul is probably going to finish last in the Big East. They are0-9 aton the road and after tonight they wil be a 0-10. Lay the points. (Cin -13.5) (W) 7:30 Marquette at St. John's: (Big East Network) I give Marq the slight edge tonight on the road. They are a very good three point shooting team and that might take out a little of the height advantage St. John's has. Should be a fun game to watch. (Marq -1.5) (L) 8:00 Xavier at St. Louis (X -4.5) (L) 8:00 Memphis at Houston: TV (CSS) (Mem -2) (L) 8:30 Purdue at Minnesota: TV (Big 10 Network) I know this is a road game for Purdue, but are you kidding. They are only giving 2 points to Minn. Lay them. Pur shouuld win by at least 7. (Pur -2) (W) 9:00 Clemson at Maryland: TV (Raycom) This game should be a pick'em at most so take the points tonight. Clemson might get the outright win tonight. (Clem +5) Pro (3-1) (W) 7:00 Portland at Toronto (Port +3.5) (W) 7:00 Minnesota at Atlanta (Minn +12) (W) 8:30 Orlando at Houston (Orl -4) (L) 9:00 Charlotte at Utah (Char +8)
February 23, 2010 (5-3) College (4-1) (W) 7:00 Virginia at Miami(Fla) (Miami -5) (W) 7:00 Georgetown at Louisville: (TV ESPN2) I love the road team tonight. Georgetown is the better team and should be giving the points tonight. You have to take 4 here. (Geor +4) (W) 7:00 Syracuse at Providence: TV (ESPNU) (Cuse -8) (W) 9:00 Kansas State at Texas Tech: TV (Big 12 NEtwork) (KSU -4.5) (L) 9:00 Tenessee at Florida: TV (ESPN) (Tenn +3.5) Pro (1-2) (W) 7:30 Portland at New Jersey (Port +7.5) (L) 8:00 La Lakers at Memphis (LA -4.5) (L) 10:30 Philidelphia at Golden State (GS +1)
February 22, 2010 (3-3) College (0-2) (L) 7:00 West Virginia at Uconn: TV (ESPN) Going with WV tonight on the road. I know Uconn beat Villinova the other day. But, they have had dissapppointing loses at home. Cincinnati came in and won by double figures. WV is a better team and should win this one easily. (WV -1) (L) 9:00 Oklahoma at Kansas: TV (ESPN) Lay the points tonight. Oklahoma is bad really bad. Kansas will win big. (Kan -21.5) Pro (3-1) (W) 7:00 Chicago at Wahington (Wash +2.5) (W) 7:30 Milwaukee at New York (Mil +1.5) (W) 8:30 Indiana at Dallas (Ind +9) (L) 10:30 Charlotte at LA Clippers (Char -2.5) February 21, 2010 (5-6) College (2-3) (W) 12:00 Ohio State at Michigan State (OSU +4.5) (L) 12:00 Villinova at Pittsburgh: TV (CBS) (Vill -1) (L) 1:00 Dayton at Duquesne: TV (ESPN2) (Day -4) (W) 2:00 Marquette at Cincinnati (Marq +1.5) (L) 7:45 Virginia Tech at Duke (Duke -13) Pro (3-3) (L) 1:00 Cleveland at Orlando: TV (ABC) (Clev +2) (W) 3:30 Boston at Denver: TV (ABC) (Den -4) (L) 6:00 San Antonio at Detroit (San -4) (L) 7:00 Oklahoma at Minnesota (Okl -5.5) (W) 8:00 Atlanta at Golden State: TV (ESPN) (GS +5.5) (W) 10:30 Utah at Portland): TV (ESPN) (Utah -1)
