Published April 27, 2009 Cavs easily handle PistonsWow, what a sad state of affairs in Detroit. I think everyone expected the Cavs to make quick work of the Pistons, but ultimately, Detroit provided no real competition at ALL. Their key guys were either too banged up (Prince) or mentally asleep at the wheel (Wallace). Others just are too raw, or just weren’t good enough. Not only that, but The Palace of Auburn Hills, once a very intimidating venue, was like a second home for the Cavaliers. Pistons season ticket holders–knowing that they had no real chance in this series and perhaps with the state of the economy in mind, were unloading tickets to Cavaliers fans. There was a great feeling for comfort for James’ gang. I don’t know what this series will do to shape the opinions of detractors. Detroit was ripe for picking. However, what this series showed to me was that the Cavs were able to win in a variety of ways. There were times when they were sluggish. Other times, they had core guys who were struggling. Also, they had to fight off rallies. In the end, they did what they had done all season, and that is put the hammer down on teams that they are clearly better than. Now, it’s time to play the waiting game. The winner of the Heat/Hawks series will be the more battered team–not to mention a huge underdog, when they travel to the Q to face a well rested Cavs team.
