"Then there is the Indiana basketball program. They hired a serial cheater and when he cheated in a serial way they had to fire him. He cheated like a New York Governor and Indiana gets no post season ban. Huh?"
THE NCAA:
Okay, okay, I know you are tired of me whining about this bunch of drooling idiots but I just can't help myself. Every time I think of the fact that the NCAA runs playoffs for every college sport at every level EXCEPT Div. I football I go ballistic. All of this whining about whether Oklahoma or Texas deserves to be rated higher in the BCS standings makes me want to gag. You have coaches of major colleges out groveling to the media trying to make a case why their win was better than someone else's win. Just take the top eight teams and throw them in a playoff and find out who is the best team in the country on the football field. But oh no, the NCAA gave up their right to do that when they sold their souls to the BCS and television executives.
But here's some of their latest stuff. There was this really neat trophy that was awarded to the winner of the Northwestern and Illinois football game. It was called The Sweet Sioux Tomahawk. It was a beautifully hand-crafted tomahawk with the winner inscribed each year. As you remember, the NCAA forced Illinois to do away with Chief Illiniwek which had been the school's mascot for over eighty years by refusing to allow them to hold post season tournaments on their campus. They said they must "...remove all Native American imagery." Well, The Sweet Sioux Tomahawk falls under Native American imagery so after 61 years it too has been sent to political correctness hell.
Here's another one. Ohio State had a basketball player transfer into the program from Eastern Arizona Community College. His name is Nikola Kecman and he is originally from Belgrade, Serbia. The NCAA suspended him for the first 12 games of the season because he played on a team in Serbia that had some players that were semi-pro. Now, because he knew the rules and because he wanted to play in the U.S. someday, he never accepted pay or any other benefits while on that team. The NCAA investigated that and found it to be true. But because he played on a team where a few others played for money or benefits, he got suspended. So if you do everything by the book but you have teammates that don't, you should be the one that gets punished. Huh?
Then there is the Indiana basketball program. They hired a serial cheater and when he cheated in a serial way they had to fire him. He cheated like a New York Governor and Indiana gets no post season ban. Huh?
I can only assume that they are doing so many stupid things because they are so distracted by the Reggie Bush investigations at USC that are obviously taking up so much of their time. That and figuring out how to implement that playoff system.
CHARLIE CHEESEBURGER:
It's hard to tell what's going to happen at $Notre Dame. I assumed that they would give The Weis Guy a fifth year but I hadn't taken into account that the Athletic Director that hired Weis and then gave him the most ridiculous contract extension in the history of college football based on winning seven games and rumors that the NFL wanted him back urgently, left town before he was skinned alive. Now they have a new AD with a lot of alumni screaming in his ear that it is clearly time for a change. Whenever $Notre Dame does decide to pull the plug on the big guy, be it this year or next, they need to sit down and really think very hard about how to pick the next coach. Gerry Foust, Lou Holtz, Bob Davie, George O'Leary, Tyrone Willingham and Charlie Weis. One good coach out of six. That means they have about an 85% chance of screwing it up again. Think about what happened when they changed coaches in the last couple of years at places like Clemson, Arkansas, Washington, Mississippi State, Miami and, oh yeah, meeeshitagin. I have the perfect solution; $Notre Dame has more money than God and Nick Saban will coach anywhere for an extra buck. This is what Charlie Weis said in December of 2004 when he was introduced as $Notre Dame's new football coach:
“I’m here because expectations weren’t met. And my job is to raise those expectations. You are what you are folks, and right now you’re a 6-5 football team. And guess what? That’s just not good enough.”
BASKETBALL PREVIEW:
Every year at Ohio State we are creating a new team and every year we start out like we are playing a whole team of freshmen and sophomores, which we are. This year we are starting one junior, two sophomores and two freshmen. All three of our guards are freshmen and the first forward off of the bench is a freshman. We will struggle mightily and start to come together about half way through the Big Ten season and then at the end of the year we will have at least one more one-and-done and maybe two. We have four ex players starting in the NBA right now and if they would have stayed in school they still wouldn't be seniors yet. We are 3-0 because of the competition we've played but the next three up are Miami, $Notre Dame and Butler. Those freshmen will find out what it is like to be blindfolded and thrown in a washing machine.
Our women have more promise this year. They will win the Big Ten again while winning their usual 30 games but this year they promise to get to the second round of the NCAA's.
JUST A COUPLE OF OTHER THINGS:
Ohio State is where three star players come to be five star players. AJ Hawk, James Laurinatis, and Malcolm Jenkins just to mention three All Americans.
Terrelle Pryor is the first freshman quarterback to ever win "The Game."
This senior class is 43-7. Three of those loses were to national champions, one was to a Rose Bowl participant and the other three were to teams in the top five. If they win their bowl game they will have AVERAGED 11 wins per season. Oh, and they won four Big Ten titles and they never lost to meeeshitagin.
THAT WHICH WAS:
Auburn and Alabama played in the Iron Bowl and Auburn played like tin.
In my favorite game of the week Arkansas beat LSU 31-30. In the second half LSU was ahead and Arkansas was driving for the go-ahead score. On third and nine LSU batted the ball down to stop the drive. But wait. An LSU player, I guess upset that he didn't catch the batted ball, walks up to the ball and kicks it as hard as he can. Now, even my five year old granddaughter knows that's an "unsportsman like conduct" penalty, 15 yards and an automatic first down. Arkansas went on to score and ended up winning the game by one point. How could any football player that stupid get away from meeeshitagin?
Ball State beat Western Michigan to go to 12-0.
Boise State beat Fresno State to go to 12-0.
Utah's horse was already in the barn at 12-0.
Boston College won their half of the ACC by beating Maryland 28-21. They are in the ACC championship game with three losses.
Virginia Tech won their half of the ACC by beating Virginia 17-14 and will play in the ACC championship game with four losses.
Cincinnati beat Suckacuse 30-10 and will go to the BCS as the Big Least champions with a 10-2 record.
East Carolina beat UTEP 53-21 to end their regular season at 8-4. Arrrrr, we be off to a bowl to steal some loot and check out some booty.
Florida beat Florida State 45-15. Bobby is now THREE behind JoePa in the wrinkle race.
Georgia with a Tech upset Georgia without a Tech 45-42. And that was between the hedges. Great win for the Techsters and the ACC.
Mississippi beat Mississippi State so bad in the Egg Bowl that the Mississippi State coach quit. Tis a fragile basket of eggs in the state of Mississippi.
Oklahoma beat Oklahoma State 61-41 to pour on the style points. Then Stoops went on the air to tell how his win over Oklahoma State was so much better than the Texas win over his Sooners. Apparently it worked as the voters jumped Oklahoma over Texas in the polls even though Texas beat Oklahoma by ten points on a neutral field. Ah, that BCS is a wonderful thing.
The Oregon Ducks came through for Ohio State in a big way by pounding the Beavers 65-38. These style points will get Oregon a much better bowl game. See, when playing with the Beavers size does count.
Pitt beat West By God Virginia in the Backyard Brawl. I guess the new coach at W. VA isn't much better than the old one.
USC beat $Notre Dame 38-3. $ND didn't have a first down until the end of the third quarter.
Wake Forest beat Vanderbilt 23-10 to give the SEC yet another shiner. Wake ends their season at 7-5 and they are looking forward to playing $Notre Dame "...anywhere, anytime."
Mount Union beat Hobart College of New York 42-7 to move on to the Division III quarterfinals. Nate Kmic rushed for 235 yards and 4 touchdowns bringing his career totals to 7,449 yards and 122 TD's. He surpassed J. D. Bowers' record of 7,353 yards to become the all time Div III rushing leader. Greg Micheli completed 14 of 22 passes for 223 yards and 2 TD's. Mecheli is one of 15 finalists for the Draddy Trophy which is awarded for academic excellence and is considered the equivalent of the "Academic Heisman." Another of the finalists is our own Brian Robiskie. Beanie Wells has over 3,000 yards rushing in his career at Ohio State, Nate Kmic has over 3,000 yards rushing in his career in playoff games.
THAT WHICH WILL BE:
The season is winding down so there won't be a lot of games this weekend but there will definitely be some good ones.
On Friday, Buffalo will play at Ball State for the MAC championship. Buffalo is 7-5 and just lost to Kent State. Root for Ball State just to mess with the BCS a little.
East Carolina at Tulsa. Shiver me timbers and splinter me leg and pas me ye grog. Go Pirates!
Navy at Army. Anchors aweigh my boys, anchors aweigh.
Boston College at Virginia Tech. How does VT get home field with a 8-4 record? Root for BC.
Alabama at Florida. I guess the same way Florida gets home field. Something is very wrong with those conference championship games. Always, always root against Florida and Pope Urban of Meyer.
USC at UCLA. UCLA has about as much of a chance to beat USC as meeeshitagin had to upset the Buckeyes. USC is already practicing for Penn State.
Missouri at Oklahoma. So, as I see it, we have the fifth best team in the conference playing the second best team in the conference for the conference championship. Cheer for Missouri so that Texas, the proven best team in the Big 12, gets to play for the national championship.
Cortland State of New York travels to Mount Union with an 11-1 record after beating Curry College 42-0. Nate Kmic has one more record to get. Danny Woodhead of Div II, Chardon State College, is the all time, all division rushing leader with 7,962 yards. Kmic needs 514 yards to surpass that record and to do that they will need to win the quarterfinals as well as the semifinals so that he would have a chance to beat the record in the National Championship game. NOBODY runs the ball in December better than Nate Kmic! Go Mount!
