With both Ohio teams now out of the playoffs, it’s time to turn our attention to the divisional round matchups. Here are my predictions for this weekend’s games.
With both Ohio teams now out of the playoffs, it’s time to turn our attention to the divisional round matchups. Here are my predictions for this weekend’s games.
New Orleans (-3.5) vs. San Francisco
The red-hot New Orleans Saints hit a road block against San Francisco’s fourth ranked defense. Candlestick Park’s grass field, coupled with potentially strong winds, throws off Drew Brees’ timing and allows for the 49er’s offense to make enough plays for Jim Harbaugh’s first NFL playoff victory.
San Francisco 23, New Orleans 17
New England (-13.5) vs. Denver
After beginning his career with three Super Bowls in four years as the starter, Tom Brady has lost four consecutive playoff appearances, including back-to-back losses at home. Even though Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos are riding the emotional high of beating the heavily favored Pittsburgh Steelers, it will not prove enough to best Bill Belichik, who might very well be fighting for his legacy. This game proves closer than expected, ending with Gostkowski kicking the game-winning field game in overtime as Tebow-mania watches from the sidelines.
New England 34 Denver 31 (OT)
Baltimore (-7.5) vs. Houston
Houston has had a magical season, winning the first playoff game in franchise history despite losing their top two quarterbacks and several other contributors to injury. Unfortunately, they will not be able to duplicate their success at M&T Banks stadium. Look for TJ Yates to struggle on the road in Baltimore, allowing Ray Lewis and the Raven’s defense to focus on bottling up the Texans potent rushing attack.
Baltimore 26, Houston 12
Green Bay (-7.5) vs. New York
Aaron Rodgers and several key Packers haven’t played since week 15. The New York Giants have finally hit their stride, generating a consistent pass rush and running the ball effectively, and are drawing comparisons to the 2007 championship team. Even though this might prove the weekend’s most compelling game, look for the Packers offense to pick up right where it left off, and the opportunistic defense to ward off Eli Manning in crunch time.
Green Bay 27, New York 20
