DeSales Undaunted - (9/12) -- (2) DeSales 38, (1) Cincinnati Anderson 17 -- This was the top matchup of the week as the Stallions (4-0) travelled south to take on the Division II No. 1 and defending state champion Anderson Redskins (3-1). DeSales came in with an AP #2 state ranking in D II, and the game didn't disappoint local fans who travelled down to the Queen City. Adam Griffin, son of Buckeye star and two time Heisman trophy winner Archie Griffin, ran for 100 yards and returned a punt 67 yards for a touchdown for DeSales. Despite Griffin's stats, the true hero was RB Josh Kuzan, ran for 95 yards and 4 touchdowns, three in the crucial second quarter after Anderson had taken a 7-0 early lead. The Redskins kept DeSales QB Thomas Gentile out of the endzone both through the air and on the ground. Anderson was without its starting QB but still fought back after halftime, bringing the game to just 21-17. Griffin's punt return then ignited DeSales and the game turned for good. Wolves Win -- Worthington Kilbourne 28, Hilliard Darby 21 -- This was key early OCC Central game between two praised team, and man was it worth the hype. Host Darby (3-1) actually controlled much of it and then brought the game to a fourth quarter tie. Kilbourne (4-0) had to rely on the big, breakaway plays to even be in tie territory with an 86 yard kickoff return by Ryan Richardson and a 76 yard TD pass from First and Ten favorite QB Aaron Kingcade to Drew Roper. Kilbourne then went on an impressive late drive after the tie, fueled by a 26 yard Kingcade pass to to Alan Tobey. Mike Johnson then bulled in for the Wolves from 10 yards out with just 2 minutes left for the win. Darby squandered a promising drive thereafter and must now look for serious computer points in upcoming games against Upper Arlington, Hilliard Davidson and Dublin Coffman. Tyler McIntosh had 10 catches and 95 yards for the Panthers.
Olentangy 31, Dublin Scioto 24 (OT) --- This was a little discussed matchup that turned into great game between the Braves and the Irish. Olentangy (4-0) initially rode QB Justin Johnson and his 208 yards through the air, but Scioto's Spencer Grummel returned a fourth quarter fumble 85 yards for a late lead.The Braves' Ryan DiSabato kept up the good foot with a 35 yard FG near the end of regulation to send the game into an extra frame. Olentangy then finished it on Joseph Eschenbach's 1 yard plunge. West Jefferson 41, Liberty Union 13 -- Fans in Baltimore, OH were disappointed as their promising Libery Union (3-1) squad fell to MSL Cardinal conference foe West Jefferson (3-1). West Jeff QB DJ Mendenhall was too much for the hosts, as he passed for 321 yards and 4 TDs. Upper Arlington 55, Thomas Worthington 10 -- The Golden Bears (3-1) continued the rebound on their hopeful season by dismantling perrenial foe Thmas Worthington at Marv Moorehead Stadium. UA rode impressive back Isaac Wildermuth, who had a 57 yard TD run, but ended up with 5 runners in the end zone, none of which were RB stars Alex Drake or Tommy Farwick. UA quarterback Cameron Brown got things started quick with 2 TD strikes to Blake Annen in the first half.
Other Results (9/12) -- Licking Valley 34, Bexley 0 -- OSU signee Storm Klein again paced Licking Valley (3-1) over the Lions (2-2). Klein had 2 TDs 139 yards. He is projected to play LB at Ohio State.
