Published August 22, 2009 Notre Dame's Chances Are...Lou Holtz. Good ole Lou Holtz. The Associated Press Top 25 came out this morning. Florida is seen at #1 with 58 of the 60 first place votes. Texas received the other 2 first place votes and came in at #2. The Buckeyes come in at #6 just as they did in the Coaches Poll. And just like the Coaches Poll, Notre Dame comes in at #23. This doesn't surprise me that Notre Dame is ranked. It also shouldn't surprise me that earlier today Lou Holtz said on ESPN that he believes the teams that will meet in the BCS National Championship game will be Florida and Notre Dame. That's right. If he is correct, his beloved Fighting Irish will be playing for the national championship. Now he is not saying that Notre Dame is the second best team in the country. He's just saying that their schedule would make it easy for them to get there. That schedule is: Sept. 5 NEVADA He appears to be thinking that the only tough game on this schedule is USC. And yes that will not be easy seeing that USC has won the last 7 matchups. So if Notre Dame gets past USC, they should have smooth sailing to the BCS National Championship game. Notre Dame in the BCS National Championship. NOTRE DAME IN THE BCS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. Sorry just thought I needed to write that more than once. Haven't we been through this before, Lou Holtz? Wasn't it just last year that you said your beloved Fighting Irish would be in the national championship game? Is this going to go on year after year after year until Notre Dame actually does make it to that game? I'm all about being a loyal fan but I don't have a job working for the World Wide Leader being a football analyst. I'm not trying to say that Notre Dame will not make it to the national championship game. Their schedule is not the toughest and they do have a lot of experience returning. It is the fact that Lou Holtz is saying it, as he does every year. It makes it less believable for me. If someone else would like to come out and say it, I may consider it.

Yes, Lou Holtz is indeed crazy. He and Beano Cook ought to get together and form their own country, preferably somewhere near the South Pole.
Well, the golden-domed schedule IS pretty weak besides USC and Maybe Michigan State, but both are at home. Otherwise it's a cakewalk.
Yo Frodo. The golden domer's better watch out for that first game against Nevada. Nevada has some great talent on offense and returns a lot on defense. Plus N.D. might be looking ahead to the following week.
