Romeo's short leash is now on him

Romeo Crennel

No one knows how long Romeo Crennel's "short leash" is, but it must stretch from at least Columbus to Cincinnati. How else to explain his stubborn refusal to see what was obvious to everyone else - that Derek Anderson has lost it and Brady Quinn should have been in the game at quarterback as I wrote last week. What was the point of RC's comments to the press all week that Anderson would be pulled if he didn't produce?

The only reason the Browns beat the Bengals on Sunday was because Carson Palmer didn't play, and even then it took another Cincinnati turnover near the end of the game to insure that. Maybe Crennel will make the switch with the bye week coming up before the Browns play the Giants at home, but it's more likely he'll use Sunday's victory to stick with his man Anderson, no matter how ineffective he was as an NFL quarterback through 4 starts this year.

Romeo Crennel has to know that he's on the hot seat for the rest of the year, and with a brutal schedule coming up for the Browns after the bye week, he knows his job likely rests in the hands of Derek Anderson, and that a short leash is attached to the future of both of them.
