Penn State Game: The Night of the Living Dead

The Buckeyes make zombies out of Penn St. and the rest of the happenings in college football.

THE GAME:

At the end of the game they scanned the crowd and there were all of these long painted white faces and they looked like a bunch of zombies that were denied their latest meal of Buckeye flesh. As I looked at them I thought, man am I glad to be a Buckeye tonight.

"Whoever they threw at Heyward he just tossed aside like lite salad dressing at a Charlie Weis chicken wing buffet."

That was a great win for Ohio State. To go into the stadium of a top 10 team and play in front of 111,000 hostile fans and absolutely shut down the home team was the game we were all waiting for. Pryor didn't turn the ball over, the offensive line had its best game of the year and the defense was, well, maybe one of the best I've seen in forty years. Cameron Heyward owned Penn State's offensive line. Whoever they threw at him he just tossed aside like lite salad dressing at a Charlie Weis chicken wing buffet. After the six turnover Purdue game I would have never guessed that a few weeks later we would dominate Penn State and put ourselves in position to go to the Rose Bowl. One of the offensive linemen texted a friend after the game and said, "You've just seen a glimpse of the future."

If we beat Iowa we will at least share the Big Ten title and go to the Rose Bowl. If we also beat meeeshitagin the next week we will win a fifth consecutive Big Ten title and it would be "outright." And the day we smoked Penn State, meeestagin lost at home to Purdue. Man, it just don't get much better than that.

THAT WHICH WAS:

Akron beat Kent State 28-20 which makes them the best MAC team in a twenty mile radius.

Alabama held off LSU 24-15 and looks to skate to the SEC championship game with Florida by way of Miss. St., Chattanooga, and a pretty bad Auburn team.

USC downed Arizona State 14-9. This is not your daddy's USC.

Boise State had a hard fought 45-35 victory over La. Tech. Bring on them Gators.

Cal, of ESPN stardom, lost yet another game to Oregon State and fell to 6-3. And Lee Corso says, "Not so fast my friend, they're still good enough to get to the Rose Bowl." And Herbie chimes in, "If they get there they will play an Ohio State team that has no offensive line and does not deserve to recruit offensive players." At which point Lou Holtz will say, "It doesn't matter, Notre Dame ith thix and three and I thay Charlie Weith can beat em both."

Cincinnati held on to beat UConn 47-45 to remain undefeated at 9-0.

Clems-son handed Bobby Bowden his fourth loss of the year 40-24.

East Carolina put up a monster effort but fell to the Hokies 16-3. Arrghh, them Hokies be mean.

Florida beat Vandy 27-3. It looked like it was going to rain until Tebow parted the skies.

Georgia with a Tech beat Wake in the Forest 30-27 in overtime. That's two weeks in a row that Wake had the game won and just couldn't finish it off. They must have studied our film against USC.

Iowa fell from the ranks of the undefeated at home against Northwestern, 10-17. They lost their quarterback and running back in the game and now get to visit the Horseshoe with a quarterback that has never started a game in college football and will face the best defense in the country. I'm starting to feel pretty good about this game.

Kansas State beat Kansas in the Tornado Bowl.

meeeshitagin fell to 5-5 with a 38-36 home loss to Purdue. God I wish I could have seen that but it was on at the same time as the Ohio State game. The wolverettes now have to go to Madison, Wisconsin to take on the Badgers and then finish the year with Ohio State at home. If they don't win one of those two it will be two years in a row with no bowl game. Tee hee hee.

Once again, Navy floated into South Bend and sunk the Irish 23-21. That pretty much takes them out of a BCS bowl game and I think that was the goal by most Domers this year. YET, every true $Notre Dame fan I know says, "Well, he has the program going in the right direction." Five years into the job at the most traditional football college in America and fighting to get into a December bowl is the right direction? Its no wonder they've suffered for fifteen years.

Nebraska dumped Oklahoma 10-3 just like in the old days. With four losses the Sooners finally found a way to drop out of the top 25.

Oregon lost to Stanford 51-42. Is it a rule in the PAC 10 that whenever you upset a team you must lose the next week?

Wisconsin moved to 7-2 with a 31-28 win over Indiana and gets Tater Tot and the wolverettes at home this week. meeeshitagin is the worst tackling team in the Big Ten, maybe the country, and John Clay gets to play them in front of the home crowd on Senior Day. Those little corner backs at meeeshitagin may spend the week licking door knobs at the dorms to get the swine flu.

Mount Union rolled over Otterbein 58-7. You can see why Mount is often called "The Machine."

THAT WHICH WILL BE:

Nick The Snake Saban slithers to Mississippi St. for a SEC yo-hummer.

Arizona travels to Cal with a chance to get into the Rose Bowl chase. Them and half of the other teams in the PAC 10.

7-3 Auburn goes to 5-4 Georgia to slug it out for a spot in the Toilet Bowl which will be played by the seventh best team in the SEC against the seventh best team in the Big 10 at Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Boise State takes on always tough Idaho on the blue field. One potato, two potato, three potato, four....

West Virginia crosses the river to face Cincinnati and make their season by upsetting the Bearcats. Not likely.

East Carolina travels to Oklahoma to take on Tulsa in the heartlands. Arrghhh, we be fixin' to put a peg leg up they's landlubbin' arses.

The Pope Urban of Meyer and Saint Tebow travel to South Carolina to face Steve Spurrier and the Game Cocks. ESPN will make a big deal out of this but Spurrier will never get his revenge.

Bobby Bowden may actually get a win this week over Wake Forest but it will have to come in the last seconds so Wake Forest can feel the full choke effect at its best. As usual.

$Notre Dame travels to always beautiful downtown Pittsburgh to take on the 8-1 Pitt Panthers. $Notre Dame hasn't had a lot of luck this year with teams with a winning record and could get their Blarney Stones crushed again this week.

Stanford travels to USC to take it to the Trojans. But Stanford won a big game last week and we know what the rules are in the PAC 10.

  Utah will upset TCU.

Mount Union goes to Marietta for a warm up before the playoffs. Mount won their eighteenth straight OAC conference championship. And the beat goes on.

The Iowa Hawkeyes travel to Columbus, Ohio, to take on The Ohio State University Buckeyes for the Big 10 championship and a trip to the Rose Bowl. Do not think that because they lost their quarterback that they will go quietly into that dark night. They are 9-1 because of their defense and they never, ever, give up. That being said, I just don't see any way that they can come into Columbus on Senior Day and knock Ohio State out of a Rose Bowl. This ain't the PAC 10 and the Buckeyes will be ready and they too, will fight to the end.

I send this to you from the heart of Hurricane Ida. It has poured for 36 straight hours and is due to pour for at least 24 more. The roads are under water and the rivers are rising. All I have to watch is a tape of the Penn State game. Well, I guess it's not that bad after all.
