As a fan, I put my Ohio State goggles on and wonder if the players came to Ohio State to win championships.
As an Ohio State football recruit, most if not all attend the university to win a championship. Why do the basketball recruits attend Ohio State?
I know I should be over this. It has been weeks since Ohio State loss in the first round of the NCAA tournament to Siena. But that performance lingers with me. It's not so much that they lost but the way they played. And with another one and done freshman this season, it just feels incomplete.
Thad Matta was on 97.1 The Fan this past week and Chris Spielman asked him if it was okay to hold the basketball program to the standards of the football program. His response? Absolutely. Many may think Spielman is crazy to think this but I don't. There is nothing wrong with having high standards for the program that you love. I love this program. I care about this program. I want this program to win. Maybe it's my Ohio State goggles that makes me think this program should win. But is there really something wrong with that?
Let's be real for a minute. In no way do think this program is on par with North Carolina, Kansas, UCONN, UCLA, Duke or Kentucky (and others I'm sure I'll get yelled at for forgetting). But I would like to at least see them in the pre-season top 25 year after year. I would like to see this team higher than an eight seed in the NCAA tournament. I would like to believe that these players came to Ohio State to not only get their education and prepare themselves for the NBA (when they're ready) but to also win championships. As a fan, I don't think that's too much to ask for.
