Ohio State quarterback Antonio Henton arrested

Update: Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel announced this afternoon that Antonio Henton has been suspended from the team indefinitely and will not travel with the team to Minnesota this weekend. No details on any possible further disciplinary action was available.

As expected, remarks from fans are ranging from "he should be kicked off the team immediately" to "leave him alone, this has nothing to do with football" and everything in between.

===========================

Ohio State reserve quarterback Antonio Henton was arrested by Columbus police on Monday night (09/24) on charges of soliciting a prostitute. Police say Henton offered a female undercover officer $20 for intercourse.

Henton, with outstanding running and passing skills, has appeared in all 4 of the Buckeye's games this year and was seen as moving up the depth chart and competing for the starting quarterback position next year.

His arrest and Ohio State coach Jim Tressel's possible response are raising a number of interesting questions for Buckeye football followers. Should Henton be dismissed from the team immediately, or only suspended for a few games? Should any disciplinary action by Ohio State take place now or wait until after a possible court date or trial? If Henton is not dismissed from the team, does this send a wrong signal to the rest of the players, or, should Tressel's decision be based on what he feels is best for Henton, which may be to keep him on the team, even if suspended from playing, so he can receive support and counseling from Ohio State?

Whatever the decision turns out to be, you can be sure of only one thing: many people will disagree with it quite strongly. Henton has placed Ohio State and Jim Tressel in a no win situation, not to mention what he may have done to his own career.
