Heath Bull Dogs sink teeth into Newark CatholicLast night in Newark the Bulldogs from Heath came in with high hopes of taking down an up to now underachieving Newark Catholic team, who has seemed to have lost that edge they have long had. The Bulldogs wasted no time at all in taking control of this one when Cole Benner, with the aid of his small lineman opening up a huge whole took off for a twenty-yard gain, with 11:15 left in the opening quarter. Lane Hartfield the Green Wave's most consistent lineman laid a big hit on Brenner holding him to a three-yard gain. Just a short time later Hartfield got to Benner for a seven-yard loss with 10:08 left in th first quarter. The Bulldogs would cap of a eighteen-play drive when Cameron Ross threw a halfback pass to Charles Gresham for a seven-yard score. The play was telegraphed enough that everyone in the stadium knew it was coming with the exception of the Newark Catholic defense. The point after by Josh Weder gave the Bulldogs a lead that they would not give up. The Newark Catholic offense was without their starting quarterback, and the back up had not really ran the offense all season long even when he had received playing time and it showed in a large way as the Green Wave would not only be shut out in the half but they would be held under seventy-yards of total offense. With 9:28 left in a very one side first half the Green Wave would be forced to punt the ball away and on the punt Taylor would crushed the Heath return man giving the Green Wave fans something to cheer about. Cole Benner would quiet the Newark Catholic fans when he used a huge hole created by his small offensive line to go seven-eight-yards as he left the slower Green Wave defenders way behind him. The point after was no good leaving the score, 13-0 Bulldogs, with 9:13 left in the half. Aaron Shook, who played hard all game long for the Green Wave was held to a four yard gain due to a crushing hit by number 47, Nate Hunt. A short time later another punt was headed in the direction of the Bulldogs as the Newark Catholic offense could get nothing going. Hartfield one of three Newark Catholic players who played as well as they could got to the Bulldog quarterback holding him to no gain as the clocked ticked down to 6:52. Newark Catholic would force a Heath punt a short time later. With 2:47 left in the half Matt Lewis connected with Matt Dawson for a rare first down. Another punt followed soon afterward by the Wave. Ross using another big hole created by his line took off for a thirteen-yard run with only 1:01 left on the clock. Facing third and thirteen the Bulldogs let Ross do the work as he used one move to break away from a very tired looking Green Wave defense to gain eleven-yards. With 21.7 seconds left in the half Heath used a reverse that was telegraphed enough for every in the stadium to see coming but the Newark Catholic defense, who really looked unprepared for this game. The reverse ran by Charles Greshham went for a forty-nine-yard score. The point after was missed leaving the score,20-0. Heath would tack on one more score when Ross went untouched for a five-yard score. UNOFFICIAL STATS
